Publishing Your Pages |
Publish To make your webpages available for public viewing on the WWW by uploading (transferring) the pages to a Host (web server). Choose a Host Before you can Publish (upload) a webpage you must first choose a Host. A Host is a company that 'hosts" your webpages on their internet web server. Hosting is either a free or a paid service. Most ISP's offer free Personal Web Space to their subscribers. Cool Page is pre-configured to Publish to the major ISP's and some other free Hosts. After choosing the Host you want to use, go to the Host's website to sign up for the Hosting service and activate your account. You will be given a membername, password, the address of the Host webserver and a directory name (folder name). You will need this information when you Publish your pages. They will also tell you the address of your website as seen in a web browser. There are various protocols (methods) used to transfer files from one computer to another computer. For instance, the protocol used to transfer a webpage from a web server "down" to your web browser is HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). The protocol used to transfer a webpage from your computer "up" to a web server is called FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Cool Page utilizes the FTP program that comes with all Windows Operating Systems. |
